Abolitionist Place

Willoughby Square Open Space renamed Abolitionist Place honors Brooklyn's 19th-century abolitionist movement and its Brooklyn ties. Planning for the development of this high quality public space has been underway since 2010. The open space at Abolitionist Place enhances quality of life by adding much-needed green space and community amenities to Downtown Brooklyn's thriving hub.

Designed by the renowned landscape architecture firm Hargreaves Jones, the new open space features a children’s Berliner play area provided by SPEC complete with a Cosmo for unregulated challenging play, lawn, dog run, ornamental plantings, water play feature, and multiple seating areas.
