Lappset Mammoth Playground: Bringing prehistory to life in Harwood Park, Dallas
Downtown Dallas Parks Conservancy: Harwood Park
Harwood Park
Parks for Downtown Dallas (PfDD) engaged Ten Eyck Landscape Architects (TELA) to lead the park’s design. TELA brought on SPEC as a play consultant to lead the playground design with the inspiration of Columbian Mammoths that roamed North Texas more than 100,000 years ago. SPEC was contracted by PfDD to design, fabricate, and deliver this playground using a life sized pair of Mommy and Daddy mammoths for children and families to experience risk, failure and mastery of monumental size. Harwood Park is a neighborhood park to serve the fast-growing Dallas Farmers Market area and the developing East Quarter District. The site is bounded by Harwood Street, Jackson Street, Pearl Street, and Young Street.
