San Francisco Unified School District

SFUSD serves San Francisco and oversees a diverse range of schools from pre-kindergarten through high school, including alternative and special education programs. Renowned for its commitment to inclusivity, SFUSD continuously implements innovative educational practices and integrates technology to support its diverse student population. The district is recognized for its dynamic approach and strengths in technology and innovation.

SFUSD’s Bond Program funds environmental initiatives like outdoor learning and green schoolyards. As part of this effort, the program launched the Outdoor Learning Application to help schools secure outdoor furniture and site improvements.

SPEC was awarded a contract to enhance outdoor spaces in collaboration with Bay Tree Design, creating engaging areas for learning, eating, playing, and relaxing. For site furnishings, SPEC selected products from valued partners mmcité and Out-sider.

With 126 schools including several middle schools in the district, SFUSD is implementing improvements in multiple phases—currently in Phase 6. Schools are receiving Rautster tables and Out-sider’s Lava sculptural bench, Plateau picnic tables, Loop, and Arc seating options. Bay Tree Design developed a catalog featuring mmcité and Out-sider products that align with the district’s vision, allowing principals to choose colors and styles to best suit their campuses.

These outdoor improvements offer numerous benefits, from boosting mental health to enhancing concentration—positively impacting both outdoor and indoor learning experiences.
